The intention of the Newark University Village is to create a community or village space for the residence of this dormitory. The village is defined as the building connecting to the urban context of the site and surrounding neighborhood. This encourages residents to experience the city of Newark. This is accomplished by a large entrance facing New Street. New Street connects to the local green spaces that exist on campus and parks. This connection encourages students to explore within the site, while Newark locals are encouraged to experience the perimeter of the block.  The large entrance of the building is created due to the combination of three building typologies, slab/bar, courtyard, and tower. These three building forms provide an arrangement for the different unit typologies.  Throughout each of the floors, public programs are arranged in such a way to encourage social gathering, creating a sense of community.
