This project is an Education Center, designed for an agricultural community in Modasa, Gujarat, India. The education center's primary focus is as an elementary day school for the children of the adjacent village. In the evenings, the center will provide classroom space for adult education. This design is conscious of local climate, indigenous materials and craft, Indian tradition, and modern and contemporary architecture. The design only utilizes 40% or 8,000 square meters of the site. It is vital the center has entry points into the village from both the north and south, as well as vehicular access off the main road. All structure on site may do not exceed one story. Furthermore, the buildings themselves are completely passively cooled and ventilated. There are no mechanical or artificial ventilation cooling or heating systems.
